about me

hi, i'm rana!

i took my first pottery day class in february 2022. i must admit, i didn't fall in love with pottery at first. i was frustrated, my arms were achy, but more than anything, i was very curious about how pottery worked and how to maneuver a lump of clay

i signed up for a month-long class immediately after that first class, and it was then when i slowly fell in love with pottery. i practiced a lot, got messy every single session, practiced more, and finally was able to center a lump of clay, haha

now, pottery is a hobby i enjoy in my spare time. it allows me to relax, express my creativity, and challenge myself to make difficult forms. i learned so much from pottery, with the most important lesson probably being wabi-sabi - the acceptance of imperfection, impermanence, and incompleteness - which naturally occurs from handmade crafts. it has been quite a joyous journey with ceramics. thanks for being here and taking your time to read this. i hope you enjoy the art i create c:

oh, you wanna read more?

as a potter who is still new to the world of clay, i am constantly inspired by the connection between function, beauty, and curiosity in ceramics. every piece that i throw has a sense of wonder and tiny details that you may notice over time. i don't necessarily have an "artist style" - i'm very carefree and make what i (and the clay) want. i'm talking as if clay has a mind of its own, haha. think about this: clay forms where rocks are in contact with water, rocks that are millions of years old and water that has traveled great, long distances. both rock and water have formed together to create clay, which may be used by a potter, like myself, and fired up to be encapsulated in a ceramic piece. what secrets does this piece have? what stories will this piece be a part of?
